Turkey Curry, Chicken Curry, Beef Curry, Pork Curry, Prawn Curry, Vegetable Curry, Fish Curry all of these lovely Chinese curries can be made with this curry sauce. The curry sauce is guaranteed to taste the same as your local Chinese curry takeaway tastes.
Suitable for Vegetarians and Vegans if vegetable substitutes are used instead of meat or fish.
Ingredients
Serves: 4
1 Onion
1 Apple
1 Tablespoon Curry powder
2 Tablespoons Peanut Oil or cooking oil if peanut oil is not available.
2 Tablespoons Plain flour
600 ml Water (1 pint) at least can be adjusted to taste.
1 Tablespoon Tomato purée
Fresh Lemon Juice to taste.
Salt and Pepper to taste, less or no salt is better for health.
Why ? Many people who visit their local Chinese take away or Chinese restaurant often do, to taste the lovely curry sauce served with the house curries. These recipes are usually unique to each takeaway or restaurant. The secret is to start with a base Chinese curry sauce, then adjust the ingredients to your taste.
Health ? Curry is known to speed up your metabolism which in turn burns more fat.
Onions are connected to the garlic family, and can assist in lowering blood pressure, they can also prevent abnormal clotting of blood. Onions are also beneficial to the stomach and colon promoting the growth of good bacteria.
Apples are full of Vitamin C, they contain no fat, and have been proved to lower bad cholesterol.
Tomatoes are loaded with Iron, Potassium and Vitamin C, as well as very high levels of Lycopene which fights cancer.
Lemon Juice is full of vitamins as well as being a powerful antibacterial.
Preparation:
Chop or Slice your selected cooked meat or raw vegatables into small bite size pieces.
If you are using vegetables, they should be boiled for around 5 minutes, before chopping.
Chop one medium onion and one medium apple into small pieces, no larger than 1 inch in thickness.
Method:
Warm the oil in a large frying pan or wok over medium heat.
Add the chopped onion and apple and 1 tbsp. of curry powder.
Fry the onion, apple and curry powder in the oil until tender, or for about 5 to 10 minutes.
The onions should be slightly translucent, and the apples soft to the touch.
Stir in the flour, and cook for an additional two minutes, stirring constantly.
Remove the pan from heat.
Add one pint of water and 1 tbsp. of tomato puree.
Stir well to combine.
Add lemon juice, salt and pepper to taste.
Bring to the boil.
Now add your vegetables or cooked meat, if using prawns or fish you should add raw prawns or raw fish when there are 10 minutes of simmer time left.
Simmer for 15 minutes, and serve immediately, with your choice of rice, or french fries.
